A daughter visits her mother’s grave for the first time. But the sea where her mother was laid to rest has vanished, reclaimed and buried beneath a new city. Amid glass and concrete, she wanders alone, searching for the lost sea—and for her mother within it.
For a long time, I observed the process of a new city being built in the neighborhood next to mine. A city with empty streets, deactivated traffic lights, and wide, eight-lane roads. In a space that was once a sea, a tidal flat, and home to countless lives, land was created and buildings were erected. I was drawn to this ghost town—so clean and silent, unlike my own neighborhood—and, at the same time, felt a sense of emptiness thinking about all the things that had been lost forever.
